Strasburg Train

On Tuesday, our day started with a little exercise. First we took a walk over by the Medical Center, but the wind was blowing so hard, and so cold, that we returned to the house and pumped some iron. Here is a picture of Owen and Grandmother Katherine working out.

Next we were off to Straburg, PA, named after Strasburg, France. The French Heugonots were able to find relief from religious persecution in Pennsylvania. We rode the Strasburg Railroad. This is the passenger, mail and baggage car, the only car that runs during the week, in the winter. It is powered by a gasoline engine that fits inside the car on one end.
The train travels through the Lancaster Country countryside, where the Amish have their farms. The farmers were out with their teams of horses, plowing the land in preparation for spring planting. It was a beautiful day. The land just glowed under the warm sun.

Looking at that Amish farmer amazes me that they have enough dedication to renounce any sort of technological advance in the name of...well in the name of whatever they do it for. Is it religion or lifestyle or are those the same thing? Well...It looks like you guys are having a lot of fun...We're just getting buried in snow is all.

I love the pictures of the countryside. It sure is beautiful--it's nice to see that's it's not "winter" there anymore! I hope Owen is getting stronger with his daily exercises!

The Amish practice their lifestyle in the name of religion. It is amazing that a religion can be so strong that it can influence people to such different beliefs and lifestyle. It kind of reminds me of me.
