Day 14- Garanazzo Visconti and Bobbio

Our last full day in Italy began with the sun rising over the homes and tomato fields of Piacenza. Our friends Andrea, Lucia, and Nicola all had to work today, so we were on our own. We first wanted to take the train to Florence to see the Uffizi Gallery, but it was closed on Mondays, so we decided to go see two ancient towns, Garanazzo Visconti, and Bobbio.

Garanazzo Visconti is a medieval town that has been restored to its former beauty. The buildings are of stone with red tile roofs. Notice the decorations around the windows, and the picture in the wall between the first two windows.

These two towers were completely covered with ivy.
Wouldn't this six-seater be fun to ride!
These young school children were dressed in battle gear, and had already re-enacted several battles with another army. Their king is mad because they have lost. Their force has been depleted.

From Garanzzo Visconti we drove to Bobbio, another medeival town that hosts an ancient church and a monastary. We enjoyed a Gelato treat, then vivited the Church and the Remains of the Monastary.

We said goodbye to Lucia and her family.
We all met for ice cream at their favorite shop. Katherine saw an item on the menu that contained fruit, and thought it sounded good, so she ordered it. It was huge! It also contained ice cream, whipped cream, and custard. I had to help her eat it.
That night we packed our bags, and set the alarm for 5 a.m.

The buildings in Garanazzo Visconti are so beautiful. The brickwork around the windows is especially beautiful, and the small arches lining the top.

The ivy is my favorite foreign invasive plant.
