Scout Camp
Okay, so I'm over amonth behind in my Blog. Big Deal. I'm trying to catch up. On July 16, 2006, I left with Brother Brown and our scout troop of three boys for scout camp in the Uintas. I only stayed two days, but it was fun to be on a scout campout again. We drove up the Mirror Lake Highway and turned of on a dirt road to Murdock Basin. From here it took another hour to drive the final 8 miles to Marshall Lake. The road became worse and worse the closer we got. Finally it was just big ruts, and rocks; four-wheel drive recommended. There are four lakes in Murdock Basin: Shepherd Lake, Hoover Lake, Maba Lake, and Marshall Lake. Some of you may recognize this area as the area where we once camped with the Whitbys and almost started a forest fire.
Tyler Young and Nathan Hulet used this two-wheeled cart to carry their gear to our campsite.
We hauled our gear from the cars about a hundred yards to a campsite.
As we set up camp, Jeremy Jones was not going to become a mosquito feast. He donned this sporty mosquito net.
Tyler Young became a master chef, here showing off his Dutch Oven Barbecue Chicken masterpiece.
Scouts were involved in timeless and safe Scout activites such as playing with the fire, and ....

Chopping wood.
Brother Brown helping Jeremy Jones with archery. Fishing was slow. I only caught two, and Brother Brown caught about four. Tyler Young caught one, the other boys did not catch any. Wednesday morning, another leader drove in, and I left for home to....

Looks like a lot of fun! Were you the only ward up there? I knew you only had 3 boys, but I always imagined the rest of the stake was up there too. The mountain setting is so beautiful. I can almost smell and feel the fresh mountain air.
What a pretty area? Were there other people around you? Living where we live now it seems almost foreign to think that you can get away from other people.
I know I am late in answering your questions, but we were the only people up there. Our ward just went up alone. Because we are so small, we didn't go to an organized scout camp. We fished at three different lakes, and didn't see another person the two and a half days I was there.
