Cabin

After our temple day, we returned home, and finished packing for the cabin. Friday morning we left pretty early. Nine a.m. is early right? For this family it is. With stops every hour for Caroline to get out and walk, we had a nice relaxed drive. We stopped for root beer floats at the now famous A&W in McCammon. Friday night, Jon, Jeff, and others arrived. Saturday, Greg came up. We were finally all together again.
With so many people at the cabin, this group had to share a twin bed in the loft. Sorry guys.

On Saturday, while others went to the antique sale at Pond's Lodge and Last Chance, we brave hikers above decided on a wildflower expedition through the Enchanted Forest. As we began hiking, we were astonished at the number and variety of wildflowers. Each step practically revealed a new species. We spent so much time looking, smelling, and taking pictures, that we did not hike very far. Below are pictures of the fair specimens we found.
Lizzy thought my hat was the sweetest. She wanted to wear it, but I needed it to protect my baby skin.
Marcella had the best view from up top.

This flower is just coming into bloom.

This butterfly is enjoying a meal from this flower.

We found a patch of wild strawberries. They were so delicious, and there were dozens of them. We picked and ate for about twenty minutes, then I had to drag Jon away to continue our hike through the forest.

The grass in the meadow is especially luxurious this year.
We enjoyed a lot of our other favorite activities too.

We visited our favorite ice cream store, Buckaroo Bills. Owen is eating a single serving, split into two flavors. Never order a double at this place, right Brad?

We enjoyed a real "American" dinner at the Old Towne Cafe in West Yellowstone, with dishes such as Buffalo Burgers, and ChikenFried Steak.

Here are the beautiful women in my life. Only one is missing :(
Here are all the cooks in the tiny kitchen. The meals were all excellent, as usual.
For our Sunday Family Home Evening, we had a lesson, then wrote memories of our Family Reunion. Then we had a contest as to who could wear their red bandana, a souvenir of the reunion, in the most original way. Greg won of course.

On Sunday night, Jon and I went into the clearing on the property south of the cabin, and took some time exposures of the stars. This one is about a ten-minute exposure, showing the stars rotating around the north star.

Lying on the couch with Marcella seemed to be a favorite pastime at the Cabin

On July 24th , right before we left to return home, we put a second coat of oil on the front and back porches of the cabin. Greg and Dad had done the first coat earlier in the morning. Greg, Dad, Jon, Jeff, and Jackie returned home while the others spent another day or two at the cabin.

Thanks for updating your blog! I love seeing the pictures of everyone. It makes me miss all of you so. I'm glad Lizzy was brave enough to wear your hat. I remember hiking somewhere with Kristin and you were putting it on and she said, "Dad, can't you put that hat on somewhere else!" We can't WAIT to have you and Mom visit in ten more days!
